Biomimetic-joint-thrust System for Underwater Propulsion

Soft jet propulsor inspired by cephalopod swimming for controllable outlet position and orientation.

Inspired by cephalopod jet propulsion, this project presents a soft jet propulsor that controls outlet position and orientation by combining volume-squeezing actuation with a second actuator for propulsor orientation, merging high-speed maneuverability of rigid propellers with advantages of soft robotics.
